Gazprom has sprung a surprise with the award of major contracts for a drilling and production platform set to be installed in one of the Russian gas monopoly's domestic gas fields, with a idle local yard that is currently being saved from bankruptcy by the government landing a key deal.

A Schlumberger-connected facility has also scooped work on the platform that will be installed on the shallow-water Kamennomyskoye-more gas field in the Ob Bay, although the project's timeline appears to have slipped by two years.
