London-based contractor TechnipFMC has emerged as the front runner for a contract covering services to replace a flexible dynamic riser as part of its Wenchang 13-2 gas field redevelopment in the South China Sea.

In an open bid launched by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) in early February, TechnipFMC offered a very competitive price against US rival GE.

Industry officials said TechnipFMC has emerged as the preferred bidder.

“It is understood that CNOOC is now in final clarification [talks] with TechnipFMC,” said one industry official familiar with the matter, adding that the award could be made in days.

The Wenchang 13-2 workscope covers a flexible dynamic riser 224.5 millimetres in diameter and 380 metres long.

The riser, which should be delivered within 12 months of signing of the contract, will be used to connect the existing Wenchang 13-2 A wellhead platform with the Nanhai Endeavour floating production, storage and offloading vessel.

Located 136 kilometres east of Wenchang city of Hainan province, Wenchang 13-2 lies in a water depth of 117 metres and came online in 2002.
