Swedish operator Lundin Energy has passed the first decision gate for developing its Alta discovery via a subsea tieback to Equinor’s Johan Castberg floating production, storage and offloading vessel in in Norway’s Barents Sea waters.

A Lundin spokesperson confirmed that the company has decided to continue the project with the Johan Castberg tie-back as a base case, but cautioned that the development will not be fast-paced.

“The next decision gate, DG2 or concept selection, depends on start-up of Johan Castberg and available capacity,” she said.
