The floating production, storage and offloading unit Almirante Barroso has started its journey from Chinese yard Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry in north-eastern China to produce oil and gas on the Petrobras-operated Buzios pre-salt field offshore Brazil.
The FPSO, which is being supplied by Japanese floater giant Modec under a lease-and-operate charter, left the Cosco Dalian shipyard on Monday after concluding integration work and will be ready for first oil in early 2023, the Chinese shipbuilder said.
The unit is one of several newbuild FPSOs that saw a slowdown in shipyard productivity during the Covid-19 pandemic, but Chinese mitigation measures kept construction projects moving along despite national lockdowns.
