A 23,000-tonne topsides for Cenovus Energy's West White Rose oil project offshore eastern Canada has left Texas aboard a Chinese transport vessel.

On 3 June, the huge deck departed Ingleside where it was fabricated by Kiewit Offshore.

After a 5500-kilometre voyage, the vessel is due to arrive in waters off Newfoundland & Labrador in time to be installed on a 210,000-tonne concrete gravity structure at the West White Rose field in July.

The project has an estimated cost of about C$4 billion (US$2.91 billion) and will tap an estimated 115 million barrels of oil.

First oil is forecast for 2026, with production expected to average 80,000 barrels per day.
