Brazilian oil giant Petrobras has started the contracting of a groundbreaking technology that achieves dense-phase separation of carbon dioxide-rich associated natural gas, significantly boosting crude production.

Petrobras has been working since 2017 in partnership with subsea companies in developing its patented Hi-Sep technology to make it technically viable for projects in the prolific pre-salt province.

Petrobras invited contractors that are expected to include TechnipFMC, Aker Solutions, Subsea 7, Saipem and OneSubsea to submit commercial bids on 15 April to carry out engineering, procurement, construction and installation of Hi-Sep in the Mero-3 field.
