A protective breakwater at the heart of BP’s delayed and over budget Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) liquefied natural gas project is starting to take shape offshore Senegal and Mauritania.

Located 10 kilometres of the Senegalese town of St Louis, the 1.35 kilometre breakwater will consist of 21 concrete caissons, the first of which was installed on 3 July by France’s Eiffage.

The protective barrier is designed to shelter a floating LNG vessel and associated infrastructure (utilities, accommodation and LNG storage) installed on top of steel jackets from the area’s wave and swell conditions.
