Thailand’s national upstream company PTTEP is considering whether to take the helm at the Yadana gas field offshore Myanmar upon the pending departure of operator TotalEnergies.

Yadana field partner Chevron is also exiting Myanmar in light of the worsening human rights situation that followed last February’s military coup.

“PTTEP is considering potential directions of the Yadana project whereby putting the utmost importance for the energy security of Thailand and Myanmar and preventing impacts on energy demand to the livelihood of people in both countries,” the company said in a statement on Monday.
