A joint venture between Saipem and Clough has been awarded a new engineering, procurement and construction contract worth about US$2.7 billion related to a natural gas-fed urea plant in Western Australia.

The Perdaman urea plant to be built on the Burrup Peninsula will have a capacity of 2.14 million tonnes per annum of urea, with gas purchased from Woodside Energy used as the feedstock for the urea.

Urea is a form of fertiliser used in the production of food.
