Australia’s Santos has made a shrewd move towards developing its controversial Narrabri coal seam gas (coalbed methane) project via an acquisition that offers it access to key pipeline infrastructure.
Santos has acquired the company Hunter Gas Pipeline which owns an approved underground gas pipeline route from Wallumbilla in Queensland to Newcastle in New South Wales.
The route passes close to Santos’ Narrabri gas project and the company aims to work with infrastructure developers and owners to build the pipeline and deliver gas to east coast domestic markets in the shortest possible time.
