Shell and PetroChina today said they have taken the final investment decision on the first phase development of Arrow Energy’s Surat Gas Project in Queensland, Australia.

Arrow Energy is a 50:50 joint venture between Shell and PetroChina with an undeveloped gas resource of about 5 trillion cubic feet within its coal bed methane gas (coal seam gas) fields in the Surat basin.

Shell said today phase one would bring up to 90 billion cubic feet per year of new gas at peak production into the Shell-operated Queensland Curtis LNG facility for sales into the domestic and export gas markets.
