French supermajor Total expects its $20 billion Mozambique LNG project will be delayed by at least one year after declaring force majeure earlier this week due to security concerns at the Afungi construction site in restive Cabo Delgado province.

Force majeure was invoked on 26 April after an attack by Islamist militants on the nearby town of Palma last month, despite a security guarantee from Mozambique's government.

The attack left scores dead and tens of thousands fleeing for their lives.
