These are strange times at London-listed Genel Energy, where chief executive Bill Higgs and two non-executive directors failed to get re-elected to the company’s board at yesterday’s annual general meeting.

Former chief operations officer at Ophir Energy, Higgs has been three years at the helm of Genel, which has production and exploration assets in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, Morocco and Somaliland.

Also failing to secure sufficient votes to retain their board positions were non-executives Tim Bushell, previously chief executive of Falklands Oil & Gas, and Hassan Gozal, who owns Dubai-based Daax Corporation, which has a significant stake in Genel.
