Supermajor Shell is proposing to abolish its dual share system in favour of keeping a single line of shares in a move aimed at simplifying its structure for investors.

In a move that apparently caught the Dutch government off guard, Shell also wants to move its tax residence to the UK from the Netherlands and drop Royal Dutch from its official Royal Dutch Shell name.

Senior executives, including chief executive Ben van Beurden and chief financial officer Jessica Uhl, would also move from The Hague to the UK capital.
