The new chief executive of contracting giant Petrofac is focused on restoring confidence after a challenging year for the business, which remains under investigations by the UK’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO).

Sami Iskander, who took over from long-time chief executive Ayman Asfari in January, said on Tuesday that Petrofac faced a number of "headwinds" in 2020, some as a result of challenging market conditions but some "self-inflicted".

Petrofac fell to a net loss of $180 million for the 12 months ended 31 December 2020 from a profit of $73 million a year earlier.
