The Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development is offering the block for licensing this year, together with a data package containing well data and some 2600 square kilometres of 3D seismic coverage.
The tender aims to select an operator for the M2 block by the end of November.
The remaining Sri Lankan acreage will be released in a bid round planned for the fourth quarter of this year, the ministry said.
