Local environmentalist Abdulla Alshehi wants the UAE to take the lead in an ambitious project that would see the establishment of ecologically-friendly cities and farms along its western flank.
In his recently-published book “Filling the Empty Quarter – Declaring a Green Jihad on the Desert”, Alshehi calls for a “Great Green Wall of the UAE” to be built from Al Ain City – already called Garden City – to Sila City, both in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
