The campaign is likely to cost between $150 million and $200 million and could significantly boost gas production from the CBM block over the next two to three years, said sources.

Great Eastern already has approvals in place to drill up to 300 wells at Raniganj South, of which 156 have already been drilled, one source said.

“The block’s field development plan has approval for 300 wells, so no fresh approval would be required for the drilling campaign next year,” he added.
