DALLAS-based Kosmos Energy is in detailed talks with Morocco’s authorities to secure a revamped exploration licence off the disputed territory of Western Sahara, a move that prompted the Polisario Front independence movement to threaten legal action.

To all intents and purposes, the new Boujdour Maritime licence will replace the Cap Boujdour licence, which expired last month.

Last year, Kosmos and its partners Cairn Energy and state-owned ONHYM, drilled a highly contentious wildcat called CB-1 in Cap Boujdour off the territory which the Polisario calls the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
