Hydrate problems occur when conditions depart from the operating parameters for the system, says Chris Mancini, senior project manager with Oceaneering in Houston. “In almost every case that we’ve found, it’s because there has been some sort of departure from the designed operating limits of the facility,” such as a switch flipped, or a shut-in that did not follow the entire flow assurance steps, he adds.
