The Tronic deal brought with it about 400 UK employees, a gleaming new technology centre at Ulverston in the Cumbrian fells district, and a brand with a long-standing reputation for manufacturing wet mateable connectors.

The SPG project, a joint industry initiative led by Siemens and backed by Chevron, ExxonMobil, Petrobras and Statoil, envisions a first-to-market system that can operate as long as 30 years in water depths up to 3000 metres, and as far as 200 kilometres from a power source either onshore or on a platform (Upstream Technology, January 2014).
