In August alone, Tullow Oil brought the TEN development on stream off Ghana, gas started flowing at Total’s Incahuasi field in Bolivia, and Shell announced first production to the Turritella FPSO at the Gulf of Mexico’s Stones project, which at 2900 metres (9500 feet) is — for now — the world’s deepest.

All of these projects are, in different ways, feats of engineering, testaments to technology development and application.
