Schlumberger is working to design its own proprietary onshore drilling rig aimed at the global market after rapidly increasing its investments in the business following the purchase of two major international drilling contractors.
The largest oilfield services provider in the world hopes to bring a more automated drilling unit to the market that will allow better integration with its existing suite of drilling support services, chief executive Paal Kibsgaard said at the Scotia Howard Weil conference in New Orleans, US.
