The pilot station for Ormen Lange soon to be tested at Nyhamna is just one element in Statoil’s drive to develop the building blocks for such facilities.
At the company’s K-Lab, at Karsto near Stavanger, a programme of compressor testing directed towards subsea gas compression at the Aasgard field has been under way for a year or more.
If studies are successful, Aasgard could become the world’s first such station at a commercial field, beating its far bigger sister at Ormen Lange by a couple of years with start-up maybe as early as 2014.
