Hydrate formation and wax deposits in hydrocarbon flowlines pose a significant threat to production, particularly in long subsea tiebacks and in fields with risk factors related to fluid properties, temperatures, pressures and flow rates.
Remediation is often a time-consuming and expensive process. Production may be shut in for days or weeks while a pipeline is depressurised or pigging operations are under way.
