About 70% of the world’s remaining oil reserves are classed as heavy oil. Differential pressure meters, which account for about 40% of flowmeters in use, were not designed for heavy oil applications and are therefore less frequently used due to inaccuracies, NEL says.
The company estimates that these inaccurate measurements could be costing millions of dollars per year, in addition to costs associated with the necessary physical property measurements.
