US operators chasing oil added eight rigs this week while the number of gas rigs also rose, according to the weekly tally from oil services firm Baker Hughes.
The number of oil rigs increased to 869 this week, while the number of rigs chasing gas grew by four to 193. By comparison, there were 743 oil rigs and 185 gas rigs working in the US one year ago.

Texas took the bulk of the gains, adding eight rigs for 532. New Mexico, Louisiana, Wyoming and Colorado all added rigs this week as well.
Ohio and Oklahoma, meanwhile, shed one rig each.
