At the same time, current vice president of strategy, portfolio and analysis, Lene Landoy, is moving to director of strategy and business development.

All switches are effective from 1 February, with both Landoy and Tonne joining the executive management team and reporting directly to chief executive Karl Johnny Hersvik.

Both Landoy and Tonne have been with Aker BP since January 2017.

Hersvik said: "Alexander has been fundamental in building Aker BP as we see it today. I've been working closely with Alexander since 2014.

“His efforts, abilities and enormous capacity has been invaluable to me.

“At the same time, I am proud that we have excellent internal candidates who can take over the responsibility.

“I know both Lene and David well, and I am sure they will be a strong team.”
