German authorities have confirmed plans to deploy a fifth floating storage and regasification unit in the race to guarantee alternative supplies to Russian gas.

An FSRU will be chartered for five years from Texas-headquartered Excelerate Energy and moored at facilities under development at Wilhelmshaven, on Germany’s North Sea coast, providing regasification services for the supply of liquefied natural gas to the country.

The state-owned terminal will be jointly managed by a partnership between Engie, E.ON Green Gas and Germany’s Tree Energy Solutions (TES).
