Singapore-based liquefied natural gas supply system provider C-LNG Solutions has struck a deal with a Chinese company to provide fuel for container vessels.

The deal will see Shanghai-based Tiger Clean Energy Ltd (TCEL) use the LNG fuel gas supply system (FGSS) to fuel its vessels, the first such deal since new market entrant C-LNG was launched early this year.

The contract will commit C-LNG to supplying its C-tank-based fuel system to 14,000-twenty-foot-equivalent-unit (teu) container vessels that will be built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in eastern China’s Jiangsu province.

First such deal

It will apply to two dual-fuel vessels, with options for another eight.

“It is the first such contract for application of C-LNG’s FGSS system on large container vessels,” said C-LNG chairman Sunny Xu.

C-LNG was incorporated in Singapore early this year. Its majority shareholder, Santacc Energy, is the one of the largest dehydrator and desalter process solutions providers in China.

The company is staffed with veterans in oil and gas process engineering with experience in process equipment design on floating production, storage and offloading vessels and other floating production units.

Its office in China employs industry specialists in ship repair, conversion and offshore engineering for the LNG marine and offshore applications.

C-LNG already has designs for FGSS based on C-type tanks for vessels of different sizes, including large containerships up to 20,000 teu and LNG re-gasification units with capacity from 5 million to 750 million cubic feet per day.

TCEL was founded by Gerry Wong — the former chief executive of New York-listed containership owner Seaspan — to spearhead LNG distribution in China.

Malaysia contract

In May this year, Malaysian state-run company Petronas sealed its first “virtual” LNG supply deal with TCEL to supply gas to the latter’s LNG ISO tank filling facility at Bintulu, Sarawak, for onward distribution to China.

Gas delivered to the Bintulu facility under the deal will then be sent to China by TCEL and distributed to remote locations using ISO tanks, which Petronas said will enable greater accessibility to cleaner energy, particularly for remote customers located away from traditional LNG pipelines.

TCEL also signed a letter of intent with Yangzijiang for 10 units of 690 forty-feet-equivalent-unit (feu) LNG ISO tank container carriers to transport LNG by ISO tank from Southeast Asian countries, including from Petronas’ Bintulu facility to China.
