China should cash in on low gas prices to import more liquefied natural gas from the spot market and axe domestic production after Asian and European buyers cancel LNG import cargoes from US, according to the former head of the country's energy watchdog.

Zhang Yuqing, the former deputy director of the National Energy Administration, said a Webinar on 17 July that the conronavirus pandemic has seriously impacted gas demand in Europe and Asia, which has brought down LNG spot prices.
