The Novatek-led Yamal LNG project on Russia's Yamal Peninsula in West Siberia has been hit with a growing number of positive Covid-19 cases, despite the extension of workers’ shifts and the remote location of the development.

As of 27 April, Yamal-Nenets authorities had confirmed 143 cases of infection among workers at the huge Russian liquefied natural gas development and living in dormitories near the port of Sabetta.

Tewnty-two employees with flu-like symptoms have been airlifted to the cities of Salekhard and Novy Urengoy, while remaining personnel that have tested positive for the coronavirus have been isolated, they said.
