An explosion and fire at the Freeport liquefied natural gas facility in Texas will take one of the largest LNG exporters in the US offline for a minimum of three weeks.

The loss of Freeport LNG’s export capacity will be a blow to Europe, which has become increasingly reliant on US shipments in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The majority of recent cargoes from Freeport LNG, as with other US export facilities, have been shipped to European customers.
