Exports of liquefied natural gas from the US dropped in May as demand continued to erode largely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to government figures.

US LNG exporters shipped 57 cargoes in May compared to 62 in April, the nation's Department of Energy said Wednesday in a monthly report.

By volume, the US exported 182.2 billion cubic feet of LNG in May, a 13.4% decline over April. However, that is still more than 25% higher year-on-year, as more facilities have come online since 2019.
