Saipem is due to restart work on TotalEnergies’ $20 billion Mozambique LNG project in July this year, according to the company’s chief executive Alessandro Puliti.

French supermajor TotalEnergies declared force majeure on the project in April 2021 after Islamist insurgents attacked Palma town close to the liquefied natural gas project’s construction site at Afungi.

Since then, armed forces from Mozambique, Rwanda and the southern Africa region regained territory from the insurgents, boosting security in certain parts of Cabo Delgado province.
