ExxonMobil upstream boss Liam Mallon flew into Mozambique this week to meet President Filipe Nyusi and discuss the supermajor’s delayed $24 billion Rovuma LNG project.

His visit came one day before Claudio Descalzi, chief executive of Rovuma LNG partner Eni, also met Nyusi to update him on the Coral South floating LNG project in Area 4.

Rovuma LNG — which has yet to be sanctioned — has been put on hold due to security issues in Cabo Delgado province, gas market conditions, Covid-19 and the need to drive down costs.
