New York-based New Fortress Energy has selected Houston to serve as a hub for its planned modular liquefied natural gas export facility or "Fast LNG" programme, the company said.

The planned LNG export facility will be located in federal waters in the US Gulf of Mexico, about 26 kilometres off the coast of Grand Isle, Louisiana.

The company has requested federal authorisation to export LNG from the proposed facility—known as New Fortress Louisiana FLNG—and hopes to have it operational in the first quarter of 2023.
