US liquefied natural gas player New Fortress Energy (NFE) has signed what could be a groundbreaking deal to develop the long-dormant 1.2 trillion cubic foot Banda gas field offshore Mauritania.

Mauritania’s Ministry of Petroleum, Mines & Energy said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with NFE to revive a gas-to-power project based on the 1.2 trillion cubic feet of resources held in the Banda field, located 60 kilometres offshore the capital city of Nouakchott in 230 metres of water.
