BP has kicked-off engineering work on a multi-billion-dollar combined gas-to-power and liquefied natural gas project offshore Senegal.

The Yakaar-Teranga will be a phased development involving the exploitation of two deepwater fields that, between them, hold up to 25 trillion cubic feet of in-place gas resources.

Both discoveries lie in the Cayar Offshore Profond block northwest of the Senegalese capital Dakar, with Yakaar located 60 kilometres from shore and Teranga about 40 kilometres offshore, in 2600 metres and 1800 metres of water, respectively.
