Tanzania’s government has completed the land acquisition for its long-delayed liquefied natural gas scheme and said it will now embark on more talks with project proponents Equinor and Shell about a host government agreement (HGA) needed to underpin a final investment decision.
However, with a presidential election set to take place on 28 October, it is unclear if President John Magufuli of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi party is serious about reviving the stalled Tanzania LNG scheme near Lindi, or whether he is engaging in electioneering.
