The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) has extended construction deadlines for a pair of liquefied natural gas export facilities, despite the objections of environmental groups.

Cheniere Energy’s Corpus Christi LNG (CCL) export facility, in Texas, is already online, but the company is taking steps towards expansion.

It intends to make a final investment decision on phase three later this year, but its Ferc construction authorisation was set to expire on 22 November 2024. The company requested a 31-month extension, moving the deadline back to 30 June 2027.
