Woodside Petroleum has awarded a contract for the interconnector pipeline between its Pluto LNG facility and the North West Shelf LNG plant.

The 30-inch-diameter 3.2-kilometre-long pipeline will be designed, built and operated by Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIP), which said in a statement that construction is planned to begin in 2020, subject to regulatory approvals; procurement and engineering is already under way.

AGIP said it will also be responsible for a new inlet point and pig launcher adjacent to the Pluto domestic gas export compressor; a new meter station located near the NWS LNG facility; and a new pig receiver and outlet within the NWS LNG plant.
