The US supermajor unearthed a treasure trove of dinosaur fossils during road construction on its Vaca Muerta shale play in Argentina last year.
The bones from the herd of Titanosaurus Sauropods, belonging to the Late Cretaceous period more than 60 million years ago, soon attracted teams of palaeontologists who began excavations late last year.
“ExxonMobil has diverted our operations to ensure the integrity of the dig site and has funded the first phase of paleontological work,” the Texas-based player, which has about 900,000 net acres in the Neuquen Province shale play, said.
