The Super Puma AS332 L2 began to run into trouble about three miles off the coast of Sumburgh where it was preparing to land, the report from the UK's Air Accidents Investigation Brach (AAIB) said.
Stressing that its information is preliminary, the AAIB report pointed to the CHC Helicopter-operated aircraft proceeding "normally until approximately three miles from the runway when there was a reduction in airspeed accompanied by an increased rate of descent".
