Wintershall said Tuesday it had consented to Tellus' request to release the Norwegian company from the sale and purchase agreement that was reached in June. Sequa, Tellus' parent company Sequa blamed the cancellation on the low oil price environment.

The German company had originally planned to sell its non-operated positions in the Knarr (20%), Veslefrikk (4.5%), Ivar Aasen (6.5%) and Yme (10%) fields off Norway to Tellus.
