The project will pull out about one-third of the total CO2 produced at the plant, which takes bitumen mined at the Athabasca Oil Sands project and turns it into synthetic crude oil.

"Quest represents a significant milestone in the successful design, construction and use of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology on a commercial scale,” Shell chief executive Ben van Beurden said.
