The Anglo-Dutch supermajor confirmed midweek that it is going ahead with its Appomattox development, launching a welcome new mega-project that will offer work for about 500 different contractors weathering a global oil and gas downturn.

The giant four-column semisub will be among the largest facilities in the region, with a capacity of 175,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Shell confirmed to Upstream that its stable of contractors will be led by Kiewit Offshore Services for the topsides and Samsung for the hull.
