The Labor-led Victorian government has introduced legislation to permanently ban fracking in the Australian state, drawing criticism from the nation’s upstream industry group.
The government introduced the Resources Legislation Amendment (Fracking Ban) Bill 2016 on Tuesday which looks to permanently ban all onshore unconventional gas exploration and development, while also extending the moratorium on conventional onshore gas exploration and development to 30 June 2020.
