The contract, which was signed in late December, will commit the Chinese yard in Guangzhou city to delivering the unit in 14 months.

The platform, able to accommodate 180 people, will be built to a GM-j180A design based on requirements set by Denmark’s Dong Energy for operations in the UK’s North Sea.

With the detailed design to be provided by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute, the jack-up platform will be used mainly for offshore wind farm installation and maintenance.
