Local media reported on Friday that Macfarlane was one of several ministers set to be replaced in the reshuffle, with Defence Minister Kevin Andrews, government Senate leader and Employment Minister Eric Abetz, Trade Minister Andrew Robb and junior infrastructure minister Jamie Briggs the other ministers reported to be in the firing line.
However Abbott was quick to dismiss the reports later on Friday.
